Back in 1898, Jorge de Almeida Lima explores his first beehives in Quinta do Lameiro, his country estate on the outskirts of Lisbon.
In 1974, intent on starting a beekeeping activity, his great great grandchildren decide to restore the old hives.
First in Quinta do Lameiro and, since 1979, in Serra da Malcata – Penamacor, in central Portugal.
Serra da Malcata, a natural mountain reserve covering 52.000 acres, was chosen for its remoteness and richness of its wild flora, namely heathers and wild lavender, from which bees produce high-quality honeys.
Serramel produces its honeys and other bee products in a privileged area, where nature has kept all its beauty and remains untouched.
Everything come from there.
From Serra da Malcata to the south, along the hills that flank the Pônsul and Erges rivers, in the interior of Alentejo and in the mountains of Algarve and, to the north, on the banks of the Coa river and in the mountainous regions between the rivers Tua and Sabor (Trás-os-Montes), Serramel produces and selects this clear and aromatic honey. Its production and extraction are done by traditional means.Granolas Serramel are “Breakfast Cereals” produced with wholegrain oat flakes, honey and seeds – slightly toasted. No sucrose added.
