Many people use to associate “rice” to China, India, Sri-Lanka…
What if they knew! Would you believe us if we told you that less than 100km away from Lisbon, in the Sado valley (near Alcácer do Sal), life is organized around tens and tens of hectares of rice fields?
Since 1760, families of farmers have been passing down their savoir-faire from generation to generation. And it’s been 20 years now that about 60 rice producers reunited themselves under the name of Aparroz (Agrupamento de Produtores de Arroz do Vale do Sado).
Their goal? Get stronger, build machines together and defend the sustainability and good practises of integral production and rice quality certification.
This strenght, plus the ideal weather conditions of the region, has been the secret for them to grow year after year a rice recognized worldwide for its unique origin & unegalable quality.
Crazy taste, made in Portugal, beautiful human adventure… We say MiAM!
Aparroz has been cofinanced by the following programs: Alentejo 2020, Portugal 2020 and the European Union Social Fund.
